Project Overview
TOBGROUP designed and implemented a Na-ion battery lab line to enable experimental-scale production of cylindrical and pouch Na-ion batteries. The facility was developed to support multiple cell formats, including 18650S (1.3Ah), 32138S (10Ah), and 32140S (10Ah), with flexible adaptation for other research formats. The project covered the full laboratory workflow from slurry preparation, electrode coating, calendering, cutting, and slitting to winding, cell assembly, electrolyte filling, sealing, and capacity sorting.
The Na-ion battery lab line was optimized for small-scale production ranging from 10 to 500 cells per day, providing researchers with the flexibility to perform detailed experiments while maintaining consistent quality. TOBGROUP engineers implemented modular equipment selection to allow scaling from small 100 m² labs up to 10,000 m² pilot facilities depending on experimental or pre-pilot production needs. Each equipment station was carefully calibrated for precision, ensuring high reproducibility in electrode thickness, cell alignment, and capacity testing.
Safety, environmental compliance, and ease of use were key priorities. All equipment of the Na-ion battery lab line was compatible with Na-ion chemistries, particularly Prussian Blue cathode materials, and designed for laboratory-standard environmental controls. Operators can quickly switch between different cell formats while retaining process consistency. TOBGROUP provided full technical support, including material supply, process documentation, and operator training, ensuring that the client can reliably execute research protocols and generate reproducible data for scale-up projects.
This project demonstrates TOBGROUP’s expertise in delivering experimental battery production lines with high technical fidelity, flexibility for multiple chemistries, and full lifecycle support from equipment selection to consumable supply. The lab line forms the foundation for R&D and pre-pilot development of Na-ion battery technologies, enabling the client to accelerate innovation and validate next-generation battery chemistries under controlled conditions.
